THE
US AGAINST MS SWIM PROGRAM
 |
| A Swimmer is
transferred from his wheelchair to the pool by a Hoyer Lift |
With
the cooperation of the Western Family YMCA, US Against MS has developed
and sponsors a swim program for Multiple Sclerosis patients. The
program combines elements of aquatherapy and exercise and is available
free to qualified participants.
The
swimming pool at the Western Family YMCA is available for this program
from one p.m. to three p.m. throughout the year each Friday and
Sunday with the exception of holidays and special circumstances.
Once admitted to the programs, participants may swim on a regular
schedule, on one or both days, or occasionally as their own health
and schedule permits. Additionally, program participants are invited
and encouraged to continue to visit with each other for up to an
hour after the pool closes. Refreshments are served at this time.
YMCA
Staff and trained volunteers work with the participants while they
are in the pool. Although the locker rooms are wheelchair accessible,
participants should bring a family member, friend, or other aid
should they require dressing room assistance. In addition, participants
must provide their own transportation to and from the program.
